How To Open Or Extract .iso Files

ISO is an archive file of an optical disc, such as a disc image of a CD or DVD. Unfortunately, .iso is not a file format that Windows can open natively, so you must use third-party file archive software to open or extract the contents of the file. ISO files will bear the file extension .iso.

Opening or extracting an ISO file is simple. 7-Zip is free open-source software, and is the best option to open nearly any archived or compressed file.

  • 1

    Download and install 7-Zip.

  • 2

Download or save the .iso file you wish to open. Right click on the .iso file’s icon.

  • 3

Select 7-Zip > Open Archive, or 7-Zip > Extract Files.
