How To Open XLS Files
XLS is a file extension for Microsoft Excel spreadsheets, also known as worksheets. The file extension you would see after your file name is .xls. If you have Microsoft Excel already installed on your computer, your XLS file should open automatically.
If you do not have access to Microsoft Excel, don’t worry. There is a free spreadsheet program, OpenOffice Calc, that you can use to open XLS files. See the instructions below to install a free spreadsheet program and use it to open your XLS files.
Download and install a free spreadsheet program. HowSpot recommends OpenOffice Calc.
Once your spreadsheet program is installed, open the program for use.
Click File > Open.
Select the XLS file you wish to open.
Read and/ or edit the file. If you make changes to the file, don’t forget to save your changes by clicking File > Save.
