How To Set Up Your Firewall
A firewall is a line of defense between your computer and unwanted intrusions that can occur with a constant Internet connection. Firewalls are set up to control the information received through your Internet connection, and blocks information deemed unsafe or unidentifiable.
Most operating systems come with firewall capabilities already installed. Follow the steps below to set up your firewall on either a PC or Mac platform.
For PC Users
Click on the Start button, and go to your Control Panel. Find the Security Center, and select Windows Firewall.
Once at the Firewall page, check that the option is turned On.
If you want to change the settings, make sure that Don’t Allow Exceptions is not checked. Then add any exception you desire.
For Mac Users
Click on the Apple menu, and open System Preferences. Then click on the Security & Privacy icon.
Click on the “Firewall” tab. Turn on the firewall by clicking Turn Firewall On.
Once your firewall is active, you can edit restrictions to what may and may not access your computer through your Internet connection.
