How To Use Notepad++
Notepad++ is a free text and source code editor. Notepad++ adds functionality missing in Windows Notepad, such as tabs, a split-screen interface, spell-checking, plug-ins, and the ability to support multiple programming languages.
Download and install Notepad++. Once installed, you will be able to launch it from a shortcut on your Start menu.
Start a new file by clicking File > New. If you have an existing file you wish to edit, click File > Open, and navigate to the file you want.
If you wish to open multiple files, repeat the File > Open process. Each file will open in a new tab, and you can switch between them by clicking above the text-editing pane.
Syntax Highlighting For Different Programming Languages
Click the Language menu and select the programming language you wish to use. This will enable the syntax highlighting manually.
Notepad++ also detects the type of language used based on the file’s extension. For example, file.html will use the HTML syntax highlighting.
Click Settings > Preferences. You can configure your options in the Preferences window.
To change the syntax highlighting colors used, click Settings > Style Configurator.
To add plug-ins that help Notepad++’s functionality, click the Plugins menu. Point to Plugin Manager and select Show Plugin Manager. From here you can manage and install your plugins.
